Description
Did you know that the name of Pakleni islands is often mistakenly translated as "Hell's Islands"? Although the Croatian word "pakleni" translates into English as "hellish," the name originally derives from "paklina" an archaic word referring to the pine resin once used to coat ships that was harvested on these islands. Kayaking is an excellent way to explore and discover the chain of 14 unspoiled Pakleni islands, which stretch for about 10 km and have a highly indented coastline with numerous beautiful bays and beaches. The islands are mostly covered with pine trees, which provide you with the necessary shade on hot summer days.We use modern sit-on-top single and double (tandem) kayaks from renowned brands such as FeelFree and Wave Sport (Perception), equipped with deluxe seats, paddles and all additional equipment. Their advantage over sit-in kayaks is that they are suitable for all people (even those with long legs) and due to the open deck there is no risk of being trapped in the kayak if it tips over. Our kayaks are very stable and due to their large capacity and wide bottom, they are also suitable for beginners.
We offer 100% waterproof dry bags (3 or 30 liters) included in the tour price, so you can take your personal items (towels, clothes, shoes, etc.) with you on your kayaking adventure. With our dry bags it is also absolutely safe (if properly closed) to carry your cell phones, cameras and other personal items that need to stay absolutely dry during your trip.
Depending on your personal preferences, the duration of the guided kayak tour and the weather conditions, your guide will suggest the best possible route for your kayak group. You do not need any previous kayaking experience and our experienced guide will teach you the kayaking techniques you need to feel safe and comfortable in the water. Your guide will also provide you with all the interesting information about Pakleni islands, local life on Hvar and the history of the island, kayaking, flora and fauna of the area, etc.
Due to our good location, many attractive places on the Pakleni islands, such as the beautiful pebble beaches (e.g. Mlini beach), are less than 2 km or 30 – 45 minutes paddling away (one way) from our center. On Pakleni islands you can take a break with your guide and taste local food or have a drink in a nearby restaurant, swim or relax. The guide will also show you the best snorkeling spots so you can enjoy the rich underwater Hvar flora and fauna.
Note: We also organize guided Stand Up Paddling (SUP) tours with the same prices and conditions as for the guided kayak tour. However, in order to make a SUP tour and paddle without problems (e.g. to Pakleni islands), all participants must have some experience and reasonable balance on SUP.
Tour options
1) Half-day guided tour - 4 hours:- The tour usually goes to Ždrilca channel (Pakleni islands), a place with calm sea, especially suitable for kayaking, where you can take a break on one of the pebble beaches to relax, swim, snorkel or have a drink/eat in a nearby restaurant. Optionally, if there is enough time, you can also visit the beautiful sandy beach Perna and return the same way or go around the Marinkovac island.
